Prisma can’t stop shaking with fear after realizing she’s been abandoned at the shelter

When we get a new pet, we must always remember that we are making a commitment towards them. They might be a small part of our lives, but to them, we are their everything. They are so loyal to their owners—they are devastated when their owners leave for work and can’t contain their joy when they come home. The saddest part about this is that people take them for granted. They do not respect the loyalty of their dogs, and many even abandon their faithful dogs over the smallest reasons.

This story is about a dog called Prisma. She was dropped off at the Franklin County Animal Shelter NC. She had no idea why she was abandoned there, and she looked totally heartbroken about it. Her eyes were filled up with tears, and she was visibly shaking with fear. This poor dog looks so clueless—she must have been a faithful pet. She seemed to be wondering what she did for her family to abandon her like this. The look on her face is enough to touch your heart.

Unfortunately, if she isn’t adopted quickly, the shelter she’s in will be forced to put her down. It is very unfair, especially to this innocent pooch, but this is just how the system works. This is why it is crucial to adopt dogs from the shelter rather than get new dogs with fancy pedigrees. If you are a true dog lover, you will surely give these sorts of dogs a second chance at life.

This is really pissing a lot of us off - literally dozens upon dozens of people have stepped up & called this shelter to adopt - not foster - but adopt this sweet girl. People who are currently JRT owners are trying to get her. We are experienced with the breed & can help her. If she isn't pulled by one of the 3 JRT rescue groups that stepped up, this shelter is going to have HELL to pay. They're holding her for a required 10 days - simply adding to her duress!!

It might help, in the meantime, if someone could take a young person to visit, and the adult and young person sit outside the cage, where Prisma is. I saw a video showing how a very scared dog would not respond to any adults, but when it heard a child's voice, it calmed down and came over to the side of the cage where the child was. ~~~ I first heard that they needed to hold the dog to see if someone would claim her. If she was dropped off by the owner, then why would they have to hold her for 10 days?

I was wondering if she was still a rescue only as well. If a resvue cant take her in why not let an experienced JRT owner do it? :(

I've been in touch with the shelter where she is and asked them to contact a member of our dog team at AARF, but they listed so many hoops we would have to jump through and refused to contact her. They said she would have to contact them instead, so i just gave up on it. They were very uncooperative. They said we'd actually have to adopt her and go through a reference check. HUH??

This a NC county run animal shelter. The state wide mandatory hold on a dog is 72 hours. The adoption fee plus rabies vax is $30. They open at 8:00am on Monday. If you want her be there when they open and get her. There is no reference check. Ridiculous. You’re welcome.

This's so sad. I'm an owner of a JRTmix for almost 5yrs now and my baby boy Boscoe has taught me so much about what true love actually is. I don't see how someone who owns a JRT can go and just leave them at a shelter especially a kill type shelter. What's even sadder is the fact there's people like me that would love to have/take her. Please let someone that's close by save her soon. And if I had the funds & power I would personally drive from Oregon and sit on that shelters doorstep just to save that baby girl and make her a part of my family.

Was she dumped by her POS owner? If so why the hold? Please get her out before she becomes a basket case. Bug the mayor and the Governor to get her re;leased.. Poor baby, good luck.

People are offering to save this baby, for goodness sake the shelter that's holding her needs to show some darn compassion and let her go. There's families out there who want to give her a forever loving home. This makes me so sick.i have more compassion for dogs them some people, the people who owned her before should not be allowed to have another pet, shameful what they did. Dogs have feelings too...SMH

I called the shelter today and said I was interested in taking Prisma. The lady told me I had to be part of a rescue organization so I asked why. She explained that the rescue org will work with her and socialize her and get her ready for adoption. That is why an individual can't just take her right now. Apparently 3 rescues have called for her and one is going to pick her up tomorrow. We can't lose sight of her though! We need to know which organization gets her so one of us can adopt her- when she's ready. Love to Prisma!

Why blog this info about Prisma if she is not going to be available to adopt? I know a family that would be perfect for her but they were told she could only go to a 501c3, not available for adoption. This is so unfair to this dog besides creating more unnecessary costs for the shelter. This poor dog needs a loving family and home, not a cage in a shelter.

I called yesterday. They says she must go to a rescue to be socialized. I was going to go get her. Plenty of extra love in this house

Stop the crap articles! This dog was not dropped off at the shelter. This dog was a stray. Hence the mandatory State stray hold. Dogs that are dropped off at the shelter only get a few days. The mandatory stray hold assures that if a family is missing them, the dog will not be put to sleep while the family looks. I don't know why everyone's getting all bent out of shape. This dog has received so many offers, and yet no other dogs at the shelter or being adopted. Get off your butts and go get a dog that needs to get out of the shelter! This dog is not the only one. This dog will be rescued at 10 a.m. this morning. Do you know how I know? Because our rescue is taking her. We are local, and we contacted them on the second day we were there. They have been in touch with us the entire time. They are easy to work with, and are a great asset to the county. So everyone else here needs to get off their soapbox, and go do something about the homeless pet population in North Carolina. Like the rescues are trying to do.

I give all my dogs their shots and I rescued 3 puppies that was put out on the side of the road during the flooding in southeast Texas and I was trying to give another dog from the shelter a home and was refused because I give their shots myself....and they wanted me to pay150$ just to home and love a dog....that is a shame

i just called the shelter today, ocotber 10, 2017....10:48 in the morning eastern time....good news is, prisma has been adopted- she is leavning today...this is what they told me - i suggest others who see my comment here, to call the shelter too and say: "i want to know the update on the terrified dog prisma, i heard she was adopted, when is she going to this new home"? - with any luck, their answer will not be different - lets hope they say the same thing, and we are then absolutely sure this did happen for this poor sweet dog...

@romero There is an important distinction between a shelter, ie "pound" and a rescue. A rescue is a group of folks, typically volunteers, who tend to work a certain geography or with a particular breed(s). They often go to shelters to take custody of animals likely to be destroyed. These groups then work to find a home for the animals. Obviously it is also possible to adopt directly from a shelter. But if not fore the rescue groups, many more animals would be euthanized given the limited resources and space of most government run shelters.

If they are holding her for 10 days then she couldn't have been an owner surrender. There is no hold in any shelter for an OS.
